Solar panels in Oxfordshire
Harnessing solar power in Oxfordshire
Solar panels offer an opportunity to access a previously untapped resource in your home – the power of the sun. Now widely available across the UK, including in Oxfordshire, solar panels soak up the sun’s rays and convert them into electricity that you can use in your property, reducing your bills and your carbon footprint.
At Otovo, we work with you to create a personalised solar setup for your home. Just as not every property is the same, every solar array is different too – the orientation and elevation of the panels make a difference when it comes to getting the best results. You’ll also want to make the most of your location within Oxfordshire, where the generally mild climate can allow you to get solar energy year-round, with the highest amount generated between April and August.
We work with a network of trusted, local suppliers, so you can be sure that you’ll be investing in a quality solar panel setup that allows you to see the largest reduction in your bills. The benefits of investing in solar
- Better for the planet. Solar panels offer a chance to use green, renewable energy. With concern around climate change rising, opting for solar means you’ll be taking a step towards supporting our planet, and reducing harmful emissions.
- Reduce your energy bills. Generating your own energy means that you can use this first, and then buy any extra you need from the grid. Since solar panels work even on cloudy days, this means you should see a regular reduction in your electricity bill.
- Make the most of your property. Especially if you have a south-facing garden, you’ll likely have plenty of sun streaming in. By harnessing this energy, you can get the most out of the resources available to you. Even if your garden faces north, east or west, you can still generate electricity.

Solar panel FAQs
Is there any financial support for solar panels in Oxfordshire?
The UK Government has paused VAT on solar panels until March 2027, meaning that homeowners will pay less for their installation. It’s estimated that this will save around £1000 per installation, so it’s worth taking advantage of.
In addition, Oxford City Council is offering a Sustainable Warmth Grant, running until March 2023, where eligible residents can get money towards energy saving improvements, including solar panels. The grant applies to properties with a low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, and whose residents are on benefits or have a collective income of under £31,000, or £20,000 after rent or mortgage payments.
What happens to the solar panels when I sell my house?
Solar panels are tailored to your property, so whilst in theory you could get them removed and take them with you, it’s not advisable. They won’t work as efficiently, and it takes a lot of work to move them.
Solar panels may be a selling point for buyers, and can even add value to your home in some cases, in the same way as a modern bathroom or kitchen, so they’re worth leaving in place. With an increasing number of people concerned about climate change, they can also help your property appeal to eco-conscious buyers.
When the time comes to sell, you should make sure you have any installation paperwork available for your buyer, as well as information about how much electricity the panels generate on average. Your solicitor will be able to include the solar panels with the rest of the sale paperwork.
Do solar panels work in the winter?
Whilst solar panels will produce the largest amount of energy in the typically sunny summer months, they also work on cloudy days. In fact, in Oxfordshire, you can expect to see an average generation of 177 kWh in November, 139 kWh in December and 155 kWh in January, meaning that you’ll get year-round benefit from your investment. Every unit you generate using solar is a unit you don’t have to purchase from the grid.
